[ARCHIVED] Southold Town Highway Department has begun preparing for the storm

SoutholdNewsFlash

The Highway Department began preparing yesterday, we have 50 pieces of equipment including sanders, front line plows and snow fighter plows have been completely gone over and run tested. We have 1,000 ton premixed salt / sand, 1,250 tons of salt and 1,000+ yards of screened sand on hand. We have also prepared equipment to handle fallen trees and flooding which is anticipated due to the strength of this storm system. I am asking all residents to please remove any obstructions off the roads and to avoid all travel for the duration of the storm. This is not only for the effectiveness of our snow removal and response efforts but also for the safety of everyone.

We are watching conditions closely and will deploy our pre-treatment equipment at the start of the snowfall, switching to plowing once there is an accumulated amount on the roads, ending with salt / sand application once the storm has moved away and the roads are plowed. Please contact (631) 765-2600 for any non-emergencies and 911 for emergency situations.

Be well and be safe,

Dan Goodwin, Superintendent of Highways
