Re: Winter Storm Kenan
As we are all aware, a severe weather event is forecast for the east end of Long Island. From this evening, January 28th through late day tomorrow, Saturday January 29th, a winter snow storm is expected to bring substantial snow accumulation and heavy winds. In response to the storm, the following actions have been taken;
All recreational programs and buildings are closed.
The Southold Town Transfer Station will be closed Saturday, January 28th.
A non-medical, special needs shelter for at-risk elderly will be on standby in response to possible power outages. If you or someone you know has sheltering needs, please contact the Southold Town Police Dept. at (631)765-2600. Dial 911 for emergencies only.
We have coordinated with PSE&G, which will have equipment and crews in Southold to ensure a swift response to any power outages.
Everyone should be prepared for the event and buy all supplies early in anticipation of sheltering during the event and possibly for an extended time.
The Office of Emergency Management urges everyone to stay off the roads and shelter in place for the duration of the event. Please keep the roads clear for the Highway Department crews and emergency service workers to do their jobs by removing all vehicles, equipment and debris.
Once weather conditions have improved, please remember to keep sidewalks and fire hydrants clear.
