Re: The Latest COVID-19 Vaccine Information
We maintain regular contact with New York State officials to bring you the most up-to-date information as the State continues to expand its vaccination program. We hope you find this information helpful:
- Phase 1A (currently underway): Includes healthcare personnel, first responders in medical fields, medical examiners and coroners, funeral workers, ambulatory care providers, and residents and staff of nursing homes and other congregate care facilities.
- Phase 1B (expected to begin within the month of January): It will include those age 75 and older; and “Essential Frontline Workers” which includes teachers, police and firefighters, public safety workers, and public transit workers.
- Phase 1C (no start date established): It will include “other essential workers” – definition will be forthcoming from NYS; plus those 16 years of age and older with high-risk medical conditions, and people 65 years of age and older.
- General Public (no start date established): This will take place after the other phases.
If you have general questions about the vaccine and to check your current eligibility, please visit the Southold Town website, click on the “COVID-19 Information” banner at the top and look for the “New York State” tab on the new page. You can also go directly to the NYS website at https://covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/.
According to Supervisor Russell, “While vaccine supplies are limited, we will continue to urge New York State to expand its vaccination program as quickly as possible to protect our community, especially our most vulnerable population. To facilitate this, I have already coordinated with New York State representatives and identified potential sites to serve as vaccination centers. I offered all of our Town’s resources and support and we are ready to go when they are. I will release more information as decisions get made.”
Please be sure to monitor the Town’s website, Facebook page and Channel 22 for the latest information we receive.
