[ARCHIVED] Town of Southold - Spring Cleanup

TOWN OF SOUTHOLD

Spring Cleanup

As of May 18, 2020, The Town of Southold Highway Department has commenced a 3-Phased Comprehensive TOWN WIDE SPRING CLEAN UP. The commencement of the Spring Clean Up was delayed due to the COVID-19 Virus and as a result is occurring later in the spring than usual, at a time when there are more vehicles on the road.

THEREFORE, WE ARE ASKING THAT ALL MOTORISTS TO KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR HIGHWAY CREWS WORKING ON THE SIDE OF ROADWAYS AND TO SLOW DOWN AND EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN THEY ARE DRIVING IN AN AREA WHERE THE CREWS ARE WORKING.

During Phase 1 crews will be mowing grass along Town roads, during Phase 2 Street Sweepers will be out cleaning sand and debris off the Town Roads and Phase 3 will be the Annual Spring Leaf & Brush Clean Up. Phase 1 and 2 will take place between May 18th and May 29th The Annual Spring Leaf & Brush Clean Up will commence on June 1st and is expected to take approximately 4 weeks. Please see below for more information on the Annual Spring Leaf & Brush Clean Up.

Spring Leaf & Brush Clean Up Program

Starting Date: Monday June 1st, 2020

Beginning in Laurel and Ending in Orient

Yard debris and branches are to be placed together in orderly piles to enable easy removal by the town highway crews. We will not remove stumps, trees or land-cleaning debris. Branches must not exceed a length of 8 feet. If branches are longer, they will be bypassed.

All leaves must be in biodegradable paper leaf bags. Leaves in plastic bags, as well as loose leaves, will be bypassed.

The Southold Town Compost Facility will be accepting residential yard waste FREE through Sunday, May 31st, 2020. Anyone participating in this grace period program must have a valid 2020 Southold Town disposal permit.

RESIDENTS: Be certain you are prepared on Monday, June 1st. Once our highway crews have completed a street, they cannot return. Anyone placing debris out after a street has been completed will be subject to an illegal dumping fine.
