The Southold Town Economic Development Committee presents Southold EDC BizChats

The Southold Town Economic Development Committee presents it’s peer to peer small business building program titled ‘Southold EDC BizChats’. This free series will bring the business community together by offering mentoring, inspiration and networking in a friendly, informal atmosphere.

The first of 4 monthly sessions will take place Tuesday, October 8th from 6-7:30 pm and will continue the second Tuesday of each month through January, 2020. All sessions will be hosted at The Lin Beach House in Greenport.

Each session will focus on a different business sector: Service/Retail; Food/Beverage/Agriculture; Construction/RealEstate/Service; and Hospitality/Tourism.

The Southold EDC BizChats series will bring a few successful Southold Town business owners together in a casual setting to give an overview of their personal experiences, provide insights and a window to the opportunities and challenges of sustaining a business on the North Fork. The sessions will be moderated by a Southold EDC member, with a short introduction to the specific sector, followed by a ‘personal’ story by each business owner and concluding with an open forum of questions and answers.

Discussion topics may include: obstacles encountered starting and sustaining a business, overcoming those obstacles, successful business strategies, flexibility / versatility, resilience, timing, seasonality, and more.

These informal evenings will offer story telling and conversation that’s engaging, motivating and even funny, to paint a realistic picture of what it's like to start and build a business. Small business owners wear many hats, including managing and mentoring people, fundraising and sales, customer service, operations — whatever is required.

The first of the series, Service and Retail, will be moderated by Donielle Cardinale and will feature Renee’s, Mattituck; East End Sporting Goods, Mattituck; and Mullen Motors of Southold.

Light refreshments will be served. Attendees are asked to bring an open mind and a willingness to learn.

The Southold Town Board created the Economic Development Committee (EDC) in November 2011 to advance initiatives to support economic growth for residents and businesses within the Town of Southold. The volunteer committee is charged with promoting economic vitality through implementing the goals and objectives as outlined in the draft Economic Chapter of the Town’s developing comprehensive plan, “Southold 2020.”

The Economic Development Committee will facilitate the successful economic growth and revitalization of existing businesses while attracting new commerce and cultural opportunities that complement the true spirit and character of the community, resulting in long-term employment possibilities and a diversified economic base that will further benefit the quality of life enjoyed by all who live and visit the Town.
