Southold Town Community Housing Fund 

On November 8, 2022 Southold voters approved a local law to amend Chapter 17 of the Southold Town Code, establishing a half-percent tax to fund the Southold Town Community Housing Fund.  The enabling legislation for this action came from the Peconic Bay Region Community Housing Fund Act. Community Housing Advisory Board 

The Peconic Bay Region Community Housing Act requires towns to establish an advisory board to review and make recommendations regarding the town’s community housing plan. The board acts in an advisory capacity to the Town Board. Members were appointed on September 6, 2022. The Board includes representatives from the following industries: construction, real estate, banking, local housing advocacy and human services organizations. 

Due to the unique nature of Southold Town, the advisory board also includes a representative from Fisher’s Island and the Village of Greenport.

Community Housing Fund Documents 

On November 1, 2022 the Town Board received a preview of the Community Housing Fund Chapter of the Draft Housing Plan. This preview was to share draft recommendations with the public in advance of the November 8th vote. This is not a final draft and does not encompass the totality of the Housing Plan. 

The Community Housing Advisory Board will be meeting via Zoom on an as needed basis to review components of the Draft Housing Plan.

  • Once the advisory board has completed their review and comments a Final Draft will be posted and submitted to the Town Board.
  • In addition, once the Housing Plan has been reviewed by the Town Board there will be opportunities for public comments during public hearings.
