Fire Marshal

The Fire Marshal is trained and certified pursuant to Title 19 NYCRR Part 1208 to enforce local, state and national fire prevention and building codes, laws and standards.  Enforcement is performed by inspections of commercial properties either annually, triennially or as needed based on complaints received or incidents involving the properties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enforce applicable codes to assure the health and safety of Town residents and visitors.

Conduct construction inspections, inspections to be made prior to the issuance of certificates of occupancy, fire safety and property maintenance inspections, inspections incidental to the investigation of complaints, and all other inspections required or permitted under Town code.

Conduct fire safety and property maintenance inspections of buildings or structures which contain an area of public assembly at least once every 12 months.

Conduct fire safety and property maintenance inspections of all multiple dwellings not included in and all commercial buildings, structures, uses and occupancies not included at least once every 36 months.

Receive, review and approve/disapprove applications, issue permits and perform inspections to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Fire Code of NYS and the Code of the Town of Southold.
